We were joined by past pupils- Kate, Abbie and Hannah who won the Gaynor Cup u14 competition recently. Their coach Alan Smith spoke really well about the importance of playing sport for girls and boys which was really well received by the children. Also Ms Ivory annouced the winners of the Helmet design competition and we had our Student of the Week awards!
Mr O’Flaherty’s 6th class were delighted to be invited by Bishop Denis to join him for a Confirmation Ceremony themed as ‘joining the Christian tent’. There were some fantastic young speakers who spoke about their faith and the importance of God in their lives and the Newbridge Gospel choir performed some lovely songs also.
Well done to our Rounders winners at the Centre of Excellence in Portlaoise on Thursday. The team played very well and won the Trophy final with a great performance from all players- Thanks to Coach Minnock for all her work after school to have them in tip top shape for the finals!
We’ve had a great start to our lunch time soccer league in 4th class with all 6 teams doing really well in their opening games and showing great teamwork and fairplay in all their games. It’s still all to play for next week as we get to the business end of the league- Thanks to Mr Keogh, Mr O’Flaherty and Ms Coogan for giving up their lunch breaks to referee and facilitate.
We are so proud in St Fiacc’s to have so many children attending our school whose parents are from different countries. This week we were celebrating Intercultural Day throughout the school. Some classes made projects via Google Slides and showed them to other classes, beautiful displays were put up and many students wrote dual language pieces. Today at Assembly Ms Kavanagh and Mr Kelly interviewed students who wore their native clothing to school and it was so interesting to learn about all the different cultures here in St Fiacc’s. Without doubt, all these cultures mix together to make our school interesting, vibrant and welcoming to all. Thanks to Ms Kavanagh for organising a great Week and also to the children for all their efforts !
Graiguecullen GAA won the Boys u13 Plate final in a great game against Ballyroan this week. We are very proud of our students who played and they were onhand to bring the cup around to all the classes today !! Maith sibh lads!
Congratulations to our Rounders Team who have qualified for the Laois Finals next Thursday after winning their four games yesterday. Also well done to our other two teams who played really well and made the Semi Final stages where they narrowly missed out on a spot in the Finals. We all had a great day and as always our students were so well behaved and showed great teamwork in their play. Some photos below;

There is great excitment in the school this morning as the Parents Association have organised a Bake Sale to fundraise for our school. Thanks to all the Parents for volunteering to help out and also to families for supporting. Above are some action shots from Ms Hutton’s Junior Infant class.
Well done to our two GAA Teams who competed in the Glór Ceatharlach GAA competitions in the Eire Óg clubgrounds this week. Both teams performed very well and as always were a credit to St Fiacc’s with their great behaviour. The girls topped their group and narrowly lost in the Semi- Finals where the boys played very well against the Gaelscoil and Castledermot N.S.

1st and 2nd classes had a great morning planting Sunflowers outside in our outdoor garden today. A massive thanks to parents Maria and Elena for their expertise and for helping the children to plant their sunflowers- make sure that you water your plants and leave it in a bright spot as they will grow huge if they get the right amount of care and attention! Maith sibh!
Well done to our fantastic 4th class students who had a Top 10 finish in Cumann na mBunscol Laois Table Quiz in Portlaoise last week. Nina, Rian, Cian and Elohor did St Fiacc’s proud especially when they have another two years left to compete! Huge thanks to Ms Hennessy for her preparation and to Ms O’Brien for helping Ms Hennessy on the night.
3rd class in Room 31 created designs for a tent for a lego figure and then used various materials to make their tents. A very creative afternoon!
A huge thanks to all our fantastic 2nd class teachers; Ms Roche, Mr Groarke, Ms Whelan and Ms McCarthy who did so much preparation for Communion’s on Saturday. Both services were so special and a massive thanks to Fr Dunphy, Cathriona, Suzanne and all the parish team for the help. Also thanks to Sharon our wonderful secretary who was steward for both services and SNA Brian Nolan for attending.

We had a great day Orienteering in Carlow Town Park today with 4th and 5th classes. 3rd classes spent the afternoon mapping out the park on a walk and will be now ready for full orienteering soon. Thanks to all the teachers for helping out to make it a great day.
