Well done to our fantastic Students of the Week and Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine this week!
Second class had lots of fun exploring place value with different materials.
Our favourite station was making bundles of ten and different numbers with lollipop sticks.
The boys team lost narrowly to Portlaoise on Tuesday .We are hoping for a better outcome on Wednesday at 12.30 when we take on Killeshin in the club grounds. We are training again on Monday. Best of luck boys!
First Class had great fun learning about minibeasts this week. We learned about animal habitats and we wanted to find out what minibeasts live in our school grounds. On our hunt we found lots of different minibeasts.
We brought some of our minibeasts inside and examined what they looked like and the differences between them. We used a magnifying glass to get a closer look at the minibeasts. Once we were finished with them we returned them to their habitat.
We awarded certs to the Students of the Week and Paisti na Seachtaine and we witnessed a Rubrix cube completion in 42 secs!! Also special mention to two brothers who won certs.
We are learning the commutative properties of addition this week. We are learning that when two numbers are added together it does not matter which number comes first. Today we worked in pairs and used a die to help us write our own addition sentences.
The staff, Board and pupils of St. Fiacc’s would like to wish Miss Moore all the best on her appointment at Ballyroan NS and thank her for her wonderful contribution to the lives of the pupils at St. Fiacc’s.

One change this year is that we have received funding to provide every child in the school with a snack before the 11 o’ clock break.
This will consist of a bottle of water and a piece of fruit alternating with a carton of milk and a scone every second day. This will begin on Monday September 4th.
St. Fiacc’s NS will re-open for pupils on Thursday August 31st. Staff will return Wednesday August 30th.
The school is presently undergoing a mechanical upgrade which should improve zoned heating in Autumn. We have also begun our classroom extension. This will mean some minor inconveniences in the short term such as: one class in a prefab while classroom is being built; exit and entrances for many classes around the back of the school.
Congratulations to Ella Byrne in 5th who finished 5th out of 133 participants in the All Ireland and International Irish Dancing Championships. Ella is a pupil of Adeline Dargan who teaches Irish Dancing every Monday at St. Fiacc’s after school.

6th class donated three cheques to charity yesterday in school and at the Graduation Ceremony. €1025 was donated to Diabetes Ireland. €602 was donated to the Evergreen Senior Citizen Association in the Parish. €500 was donated to a primary school in Uganda where ten children will be funded through a full year of primary school. Well done to all the children who raised such an enormous amount of money this year. We are very proud of you here in the school.
