St. Fiacc's National School

Well done to the 6th class students who presented their ‘Run Right’ project to the Irish Primary PE Association and to Secondary school students in DCU on Wednesday. Their innovative project was highly commended by all on the day and they represented St Fiacc’s brilliantly.

Mr Kelly’s 5th class enjoying his interactive local History Tour today where they visited Carlow Castle, The Croppy Grave, Wellington Bridge, St Clare’s Church, The Poor Clare Monastery and Millennium Bridge. A great afternoon was had by all exploring our local historical sites.

First class have been learning about games in the past. We learned about some playground games. We went outside and tried them for ourselves. We really liked Four Corners and Hopscotch. They have easy rules and are good fun to play with your friends.

First class are learning about capacity this week. We investigated how much water different containers can hold. Did you know it takes 28 egg cups of water to fill a jug?  

Second class teachers are very proud of all the children who made their First Penance recently. Well done to all involved and thank you to Fr. Dunphy and Suzanne for helping the children prepare for this very special occasion.

In room 12, we are learning all about the weather and climate.  We made weather charts and looked at the different types of equipment we use to measure weather. We love working together and using the laptops to research all about these topics.

Second class had a wonderful time at the engineering workshop in the Visual Art Centre. We saw a wonderful exhibition from the artist Denis McNulty. Then we got to plan and create Teepees in groups.

6th class were learning all about Vikings as traders and explorers so we made Viking Longships from clay and decorated them using buttons and feathers.

Second class room 10 have been busy learning about spring! They used ipads to research information about Irish garden birds. They completed fantastic projects based on the information they found. They worked in small groups to complete these projects and the results are super. Well done room 10

Second class room 10 have been learning about the famous artist Kandinsky. They created these beautiful Kandinsky inspired paintings using paint and oil pastels. Well done rang 2!

The school choir had a fabulous time in the RDS at Peace Proms 2018. We are so proud of our school choir and how well they performed on the day. They danced and sung their hearts out and we were thrilled. Thank you to all the parents / guardians who supported us and for the members of school choir for learning dances and lyrics both in school and at home and for attending numerous rehearsals. Keep up the good work

6th class drew and painted gorgeous swans for valentine’s themed art – Swans are a beautiful example of true love as once they find their soulmate they stay together for life. Here are some of the lovely artworks created today by rang a 6.

In room 12, we learned the story behind Valentine’s day. We also talked about all the nice things we can do for our families on this special day to show that we love and care for them. We can’t wait to bring our ‘Love bug’ cards home!

Room 12 were busy making 3D shapes out of match sticks last week. It was so much fun!
