St. Fiacc's National School

Second Class room 10 have been learning all about autumn! We have been learning about plants and animals in our local area. We went on a nature trail around our school grounds and used the iPads to take pictures of signs of autumn. We collected different types of leaves, acorns and other materials. When we went back to the classroom we looked closely at the materials we collected and studied the photographs that had been taken. We also did some leaf rubbings! It was a fun day! We love autumn

First class enjoyed using the iPads and encyclopaedia to find out information for their reports.

Best wishes to all of our 6th class students who graduated from St Fiacc’s N.S on Wednesday night in St Clare’s Church. It was a very special night and a huge thanks to Fr Dunphy and all the parish team for helping us with the preparation. Well done to our fantastic 6th class students who raised €2300 for the Cancer Society through donating some of their Confirmation money and for organising a very successful Bake Sale. It was an amazing achievement fundraising that amount of money and we are very proud of all your hard work. Best wishes in Secondary School and in the future from all the staff of St Fiacc’s N.S!

The sun was shining last Wednesday in the Wicklow mountains as the 5th classes visited Clara Lara activity centre. Everybody had a super day out!

Well done to the 32 6th class boys and girls who represented the school in the Laois Cumann na mBunscol Rounders Semi-Finals in The Heath GAA grounds last Thursday. All three teams played very well on the day and had a great day out.

Some snaps from the Junior Infants School Tour last Friday. The children had a great day in Rathwood making teddy bears, playing in the playground, feeding the geese, taking the teddy bear train as well as having a teddy bears picnic.

Thanks to Mr Kelly and all in Carlow IT for organising such a fantastic day for the boys and girls in Mr Kelly’s class. We visited the studio and made live broadcasts, explored different elements of sports science and performance and visited the aviation centre beside the IT. It was a very educational day and thanks to Mr Kelly for organising the link with the college.

Well done to the girls who beat Bennekerry N.S in a very close game to win the Glór Ceatharlach championship this year. A huge thank you to Ms Walsh and Ms Scully for training the girls and congratulations to all on such a skillful and determined performance.

A massive thanks to our wonderful parish priest and parish team;  Fr Dunphy, Suzanne, Caitriona and all in the parish centre for making it such a special day for the sixth class children and their families. Also a huge thanks to the sixth class teachers, Mr Nolan, Ms Ronan and Ms Delaney for preparing the children so well for their Ceremony of Light and Confirmation ceremony.

Well done to our girls and boys basketball teams who were playing in the Carlow Basketball League under the guidance of Mr Shiel over the past six weeks. Both teams narrowly lost their last game to Gaelscoil Ceatharlach last week but played very well.

Happy Easter to all! Seomra 10 have made some lovely art work and created a lovely Easter display! Enjoy the holidays and I hope the Easter bunny delivers some nice treats!
