On March 15th in glorious sunshine Gerald Duggan of St. Fiacc’s raised the tricolour to mark 100 years since the 1916 Easter rebellion. A huge crowd turned out to enjoy our activities to mark this great occasion.
First our Banna ceoil played The Foggy Dew. We sang the anthem with great gusto as the flag was hoisted.
Next Conor Harte read the Proclamation passionately. Our dancers then entertained us with a variety of tunes.
Paulina and Joe recited their versions of the Proclamation for the 21st century. Second class roused us with The Boys of the Old Brigade. Oisin enthralled us with his rendition of Grace. Fourth class energised us with Oro se do bheatha abhaile and A Nation once Again. Isabelle recited Pearse’s The Mother poignantly.
Finally Mr Kelly’s class composition ‘Neath our Flag provided a fitting ending to proceedings.
After the break the whole school joined in and danced their hearts out with the Walls of Limerick. It was a truly memorable day for all involved.
